William Vercillo

Undergraduate Researcher

Overview

William Vercillo is an undergraduate student in Bioinformatics at the University of Utah, focusing on computational genetics and complex disease. His research centers on identifying genetic variants associated with metabolic conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease, particularly in underrepresented populations, using GWAS pipelines, variant annotation tools, and high-performance computing. He aims to pursue a career as a physician-scientist, integrating computational genomics with clinical medicine, and is the founder of a student-led bioethics initiative exploring the role of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, in healthcare.

Outside of academics, he is involved in clinical work as a certified EMT and enjoys fitness, philosophy, and building technical projects.
